Sometimes a beach trip is just what it takes to feel inspired and motivated! There is no place in the world like Seaside, Florida, to me, and I will forever cherish the times spent with family and friends on the Emerald Coast. There truly isn't anything more refreshing and relaxing to me than days spent by the sea! Every time I look out from the beach pavilion (seen above in the photos), I am in total awe of the His creation, His grace, and His love. The long stretches of white sand, the clear shallow water, the deep blue ocean, the radiant sun, and the sound of the crashing waves.... all of it amazes me!
Just before we left town, I came up with several designs I wanted to make for our vacation! The first was this coral two piece. I have had this coral cotton fabric for a while, but I had not come up with the right design to use it for yet. After making my last design, the LWD, I debated constructing another dress, but I really wanted to do something different! And that is how this two piece set was born :) Even though I have not really branched into the world of crop tops, I was excited to give this design a try for the beach trip! I love two pieces for their versatility and ability to wear them together or separate!
Some things I learned while constructing this two piece coral set:
1. I had the realization (at about 1:37am) that making a garment is similar to wrapping a pretty gift. It is all pretty and put together on the outside, but the inside is made of raw edges and lots of cut and folded material. Wrapping gifts was one of my very favorite pastimes when I was little, so maybe there’s a correlation there? :)
2. If we want to take the metaphor a bit farther... Clothes are kind of like people (I promise I have a point...). I, the creator of this little garment, know all of the raw edges and uneven cuts that make up the inside of the skirt and top that you cannot see from the outside. I know where each crooked seam is and where every thread is out of place. Just as I know about the insides of this garment that viewers cannot see, the Lord, the creator of heaven and earth, sees through our outward display and straight to our heart. He knows each and every one of our struggles and pains, and loves us oh so much.
3. The coral color of this fabric looks different in just about every photo. It is so hard to capture this color accurately!
4. If you cut a skirt hemline in a straight line, it will not be straight on the body. Humans are not straight lines!
5. Arm holes can be tricky things!
