Hotel Review: Grand Hotel Marriott Resort - Point Clear, Alabama

Point Clear, Alabama is a special place to me for many reasons, and I'll use just about any excuse to visit this beautiful coastal spot on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. One of my very favorite reasons to visit though is definitely the allure of The Grand Hotel, one of my favorite hotels in the South that is located in Point Clear- just a few minutes south of Fairhope, Alabama. With all of its history, character, and charm, The Grand Hotel is a place that immediately calms, renews, and relaxes all who visit. It's hard to be surrounded by the whispering moss in the trees, feel the bay breeze along the coast, and hear the relaxed waves of Mobile Bay without having the biggest smile on your face. Days spent at the Grand Hotel are some of my all time favorites- filled with family, friends, stunning sunsets, and the best french toast (more on that later :)!

Currently, the Grand Hotel is undergoing a massive renovation (read more about the $32 million transformation here), and I have loved visiting several times over the last several months and seeing the new updates, amenities, and rebranding take shape. I felt super lucky to get to call the Grand Hotel home for a few days while visiting Point Clear for Polo at the Point (more on that in the coming days). It was really fun to get a glimpse at all the exciting changes and renovations happening at the resort. I am counting down the days until the completion of the Grand's renovations in Spring 2018, and I look forward to sharing more with you about its exciting new look next spring as The Grand becomes only 1 of 3 hotels in Alabama to be a part of Marriott's exclusive Autograph Collection!

ACCOMMODATIONS

There is nothing like waking up to the southern breeze and beautiful view of Mobile Bay, and my favorite update to the Grand Hotel so far is the gorgeous renovated guest rooms. They are super spacious and comfortable, and the decor is the perfect blend of modern and traditional- with leather headboards, luxe bedding, relaxing gray and blue paint colors, and pretty wood furniture throughout the room. The closets are roomy (that means a lot coming from an overpacker like myself :), and the bathrooms are stocked with Thann beauty products. I could easily move right in and never leave!

DINING

Although I ate out at local restaurants for many meals during my most recent visit to Point Clear, I can definitely attest to the Grand's room service being absolutely amazing. As a little girl, I counted down to Saturday mornings at the Grand, getting to order their french toast, and devouring every last bit of it cuddled up in bed. Some things never change, and I still look forward to the same room service order today! Also, one of the special things about the Grand Hotel is their traditional afternoon tea time, served each day at 4pm with an assortment of the most delicious cookies!

In addition to Room Service and Afternoon Tea, the Grand boasts multiple restaurants and dining options, including the Grand Steakhouse, Saltwater Grill, Bucky's Birdcage Lounge, and more.

ACTIVITIES

Whether you are looking to just relax and unwind or be a little more active on your trip to The Grand, there are endless activities on the property and nearby. The Grand has a 20,000 square foot spa (currently under renovation), two golf courses, pool complex, fitness center, tennis courts, beach rentals (kayaks, hobie cats, and sail boats), bike rentals, boating, fishing, and so much more. Long walks on the boardwalk along the bay are my favorite. Nearby, Downtown Fairhope offers even more activities, entertainment, and events for guests and lots of cute boutiques and delicious restaurants too. Some of my favorite shops to visit in Downtown Fairhope are CK Collection, Sway, 7 South Shop, and Sadie's.

For me, this trip was filled with watching lots of polo and cheering on my brother at Point Clear Polo Club. I'll be sharing more about this year's Polo at the Point event (it was quite a memorable one) in another upcoming post!
