Diary of New York Fashion Week 2019

New York Fashion Week is here, and I am so thankful I got to sneak away to NYC for a few days to take part in a several fun events this past weekend- the ultimate highlight being the Tibi Spring 2020 runway show and backstage experience! Keep scrolling for alllll the details!

For today’s post I have rounded up lots and lots of photos from my weekend in the city and am recapping everything in a “diary style” post. Beneath each day, you will find outfit photos with product details linked right below. You can click on the product links or images to shop!

FRIDAY

Friday was such a full day! I landed around 9:30am and after fighting morning traffic and a long, long ride into Manhattan, I hit the ground running. First stop was dropping off my bags then heading into the Stoney Clover Lane office on 5th Avenue. More to come on that soon :) Around 3pm, I left the SCL office to head over to the new Shopbop store in Soho that just opened that morning. Traffic again was madness trying to get downtown in the rain, but I eventually made it and the Shopbop store was everything I imagined it would be and more!

Shopbop is my #1 go to for online shopping and to see so many of their beautiful pieces in person was a dream! The space is laid out so creatively and is just big enough to showcase their large selection of items without being too overwhelming. It feels like shopping in several small boutiques rather than one big department store, which I loved. It was also really exciting to see so many gorgeous fall things in store. I can’t believe boot and sweater season is almost upon us!

For Shopbop’s grand opening, Stoney Clover Lane hosted a customization event inside the store personalizing their pouches with the cutest patches to celebrate 20 years of Shopbop! Shop Stoney Clover Lane at Shopbop here.

SATURDAY

Saturday was a much needed slower paced day in NYC, and it was so nice to sleep in without setting an alarm. I knew my Friday and Sunday were going to be full, so I left my Saturday plans open for wandering and exploring some new things in the city.

First stop was Bergdorf’s for BG Radar- an event showcasing the designs of up and coming designers. My favorites were Khaite and Sies Marjan!

After missing an event (WWD x WeWork), I headed over to the FIT Museum to see two amazing exhibits: “Paris, Capital of Fashion” and “Minimalism/ Maximalism". The Paris exhibit was my favorite and highly recommend it if you find yourself in NYC this fall. The exhibit shows how great of an impact the city of Paris and its designers have had on global fashion for hundreds of years. So many stunning designs are on display, and it was really inspiring to read about the history and significance of each piece. My favorite was seeing some of the original Parisian designs displayed next to the American “copy” with explanations about how the designs are alike and different.

After spending a little while at the museum, I headed over to Chelsea for lunch at one of favorite NYC spots- Sweetgreen. The “Guacamole Greens Salad” is soooo delicious.

I did a little more shopping and browsing post lunch- stopped in Rebecca Taylor, Tory Burch, Dior, and a few more pretty stores. I also stumbled upon Prive Sample Sale at Chelsea Market and found a handful of Theory, Rag and Bone, and Vince pieces on major sale!

After shopping, I headed back to the apartment to do some photo editing and met up with friends for dinner at Fonda in the East Village. It was so so yummy. If you ever go, you must get the guacamole!

SUNDAY

Sunday was by far the most exciting day with the much anticipated Tibi Spring 2020 runway show! My love for Tibi knows no end (read more on that here), and I was so honored to have the chance to attend backstage, get a peek at the new collection, and see the show come to life.

From last year’s post: “I’ve written about it before, but long story short: My mom, my sister, and I have been shopping/ wearing Tibi dresses for years. Whenever a special event comes up, one of the first things we find ourselves doing is heading to Tibi.com to take a look at their newest arrivals.

When I was 16 [July 2012], I visited St. Simons Island, Georgia and the Tibi Outlet (Tibi has two stores- their boutique in NYC and their outlet in St. Simons Island). It was there that fell more in love with their brand, seeing racks and racks of their gorgeous clothes up close, and I learned more about Tibi and their Founder/ Creative Director Amy Smilovic. Amy actually grew up in St. Simons Island and Tibi’s warehouse (where they fulfill/ ship orders around the world) is still based in Brunswick, Georgia.

It was around the same time that I first visited the Tibi Outlet that I decided to dip my toes into the world of blogging, originally launching my @LCBSTYLE instagram account [Feburary 2013]. Soon afterwards, Amy Smilovic visited Birmingham (my hometown) to show her Spring collection at Birmingham Fashion Week [March 2013], and I had the chance to meet her at a local boutique. At 17 I was dreaming of a career in fashion but was not too sure how I would make it a reality or if it could ever be a reality living in the South. Meeting this incredible woman with southern roots who had built and established such an amazing fashion brand worldwide inspired me so so much. Alabama is far from the fashion capitals of the world, but Amy’s story and the stories of other Southern women [with major influence in the world of fashion] have always had an incredible impact on me and encouraged me to keep chasing my fashion dreams.”

This was my second year attending backstage with Tibi (see my post and outfit from last year here) and this year was just as thrilling and special as I remembered! As someone who loves all the tiniest details and seeing the process of how things come together, it was so so exciting to get a behind the scenes glimpse at everything- from hair, to makeup, to nails, to rehearsal, to backstage photos, and more. I was literally pinching myself the whole time!

The backstage scene at Tibi was dominated by several amazing beauty brands- Bobbi Brown for makeup, Aveda for hair, and Jin Soon for nails. It blows my mind how many models these stylists and artists can prep in such a short amount of time to get ready for the show. One of the most fascinating things backstage was watching Cassandra Garcia (editorial makeup artist for Bobbi Brown) work her magic and create the most gorgeous and naturally stunning makeup looks for each model. I’m not really a fan of heavy makeup and prefer a less is more kind-of-look personally, so I love that Cassandra applies makeup in a way that accentuates each model’s features without making them look like they are wearing any makeup at all. It’s literally magic. Cassandra is a true artist and so unbelievably talented- I could have sat there for hours just watching her amazing and effortless work!

The Tibi Spring 2020 show was at The Times Center, which was such a cool and different venue for a runway show. The models first walked onto the main stage of the auditorium before criss crossing and making their way up the stairs/ aisles for the audience to get a closer glimpse at each look.

The Tibi Spring 2020 collection is nothing short of stunning and, as always, I am already counting down the days until these designs are in stores. I think Tibi does the most incredible job at creating cohesive collections through color and fabric choices. The color stories of Tibi’s collections always feel so spot on and have me eagerly awaiting the next season. The Spring 2020 collection is filled with lots of white, tan, shades of green, and lilac- a few colors I can’t wait to wear next spring. Overall the collection was a timeless mix of relaxed yet elevated pieces that can take you from day to night and everywhere inbetween! See the full collection here.

A big thank you to the Tibi team for including me in this speical day!
