A few months ago my sister had a precious baby boy and the sweetest little love came into our lives! Since then, I have spent a good amount of time back in my Birmingham bedroom to be closer to them and soak in the gift of being an aunt!

Over the past couple months I have been making a few tweaks and adjustments to my Birmingham bedroom to give it an updated and fresh feel, and today I want to share some of my finds with you! I know over the past year so many of you have been spending more time around the house and looking for ways to freshen things up! I hope this post gives you a little insight to some of my favorite home finds and ideas for ways to bring beauty into your home.

When my sister and I decorated this bedroom a few years ago (see article on Glitter Guide here), we chose pretty + functional pieces that we knew would stand the test of time. It has been fun to build upon those and change up accessories from time to time to give it a fresh feel!

One of the most foundational pieces in my bedroom is the Pondicherry Bed by Serena and Lily. I love it now just as much as I did in 2014 and probably will forever and ever. The Pondicherry Bed is not just beautiful but extremely sturdy and well made! The white linen fabric contrasted with the brass nailheads makes it a focal point of the room and a beautiful base to build off of with different bedding from year to year.

A more recent and notable update in my room was another Serena and Lily purchase- the Westwood Quilt in white. My parents had these quilts first, and I fell in love with the soft feel and pretty texture of them. It is hard to beat the feel of a crisp white quilt and soft bedding. If you are looking for a plain quilt that is soft, durable, and well made... I cannot recommend the Westwood Quilt by Serena and Lily enough.

To bring some color into my bedding mix, I found these Matouk Classic Chain Euro Shams that add the perfect touch of light blue. And my sweet sister gave me a pair of these Lulie Wallace pattern pillows for Christmas that were the perfect finishing touch! I was actually supposed to bring them with me back to Palm Beach for my apartment here, but I couldn’t resist how perfect they looked with the Matouk pillows!

And finally, for the most recent update that has made the biggest difference in my bedroom as a whole... the addition of two Balboa X-Base Stools from Serena and Lily! Living in Palm Beach for the two years now has definitely given me a whole new love for everything rattan, woven, and bamboo. I’ve always loved incorporating woven accessories into my outfits but living in Palm Beach, surrounded by so much island design inspiration, has given me a new love for incorporating woven pieces into home design as well. I love stopping by the Serena and Lily store here in Palm Beach to see the ways the designers incorporate all the Serena and Lily rattan pieces into so many different rooms. The Serena and Lily Balboa Collection is my favorite of all!

While spending time in Birmingham, I wanted to bring that sunny island feel into my bedroom there as well! The Serena and Lily Balboa X-Base Stools were perfect for doing just that without having to make too big of an investment. They add the symmetry that my bedroom was missing and truly make the room feel complete. The Serena and Lily Balboa X-Base Stools are not just super pretty, but I love how functional they are as well. They have quickly become the perfect little spot to drop my bag when coming and going. They are also light enough to easily move around and use as a perch around my room. Each Balboa X-Base Stool is made of hand wrapped rattan around a beech base and finished with a crisp white cushion to give it a tailored feel. These stools can bring a touch of island life into any home anywhere.

Rattan furniture and accessories, including the Serena and Lily Balboa X-Base Stools, instantly give a room a natural, relaxed, and fresh feel... and I just love it! These pieces pair well with traditional and modern style and really act like a neutral in any room.

Whether you’re looking to give your room an update or moving and looking for bigger ticket furniture items, Serena and Lily is a must stop shop. While some of their pieces can be an investment, they also have a nice offering of under $500 items that make a big impact. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference!
