For those that follow along on Instagram, many of you saw glimpses of one of my very favorite events of the year that took place this past weekend- Polo at the Point! I decided to make this dress for the event at the last minute before I left town, and I was actually kind of shocked when it came together! I seriously thought there was no way I was going to finish it in time. I have had this cobalt blue silk crepe de chine fabric for a while, and I am so glad it was finally put to good use!
When I began thinking about what to make, I knew I wanted something loose and comfortable for a long day of polo (and cheering on my dad and brother :) ), yet feminine and formal enough for the event. I quickly began sketching, and after seeing so many neckties and collared looks on the runway for NYFW, I decided I definitely wanted to add a necktie/ collar element into it. I have also loved the look of ruffled drop-waisted skirts but have always had a difficult time finding one that hit in just the right place! I came up with this design that combined those two elements and got to work sewing!
Each time I make a new garment, I am reminded of the cliche yet very accurate saying "practice makes perfect." While many times I wish that I could develop perfect pattern making + sewing skills overnight, there is so much more to be learned in the process and the practice. I still have so so so much to learn about apparel design and construction, but I am loving every minute of progressing on this path.
Thanks for reading!
