Hotel Review: 21c Lexington

OVERVIEW

Happy Thursday! Today I'm sharing one more post from my recent visit to Lexington, Kentucky, and I'm excited to tell y'all a bit more about the really wonderful hotel I got to call home for the weekend, 21c Lexington!

21c Lexington is a newer hotel in the area and opened in 2016 after a couple from Louisville purchased and renovated the historic building (fun fact: the building was the first Lexington skyscraper and is over 100 years old). 21c is a really unique property, because it is not only a really chic 88-room boutique hotel but an art museum as well. The hotel has over 7,000 square feet of exhibition space, and there are countless works of art around every corner... kept my curious eye wandering and intrigued all weekend!

The hotel definitely has a modern downtown feel but with lots of southern comfort too, which I loved! I would highly recommend this hotel to friends, family, and anyone visiting the Lexington area. If you are looking for a southern weekend getaway, 21c Lexington is for sure worth the trip. After such a lovely stay in Lexington, I am eager to visit more 21c Museum Hotels across the US... Nashville is next on my list!

ACCOMMODATIONS

As far as boutique hotel rooms go, I don't think it gets much better than 21c. From the minute I stepped through the door, I fell in love with the tall ceilings, huge windows overlooking Main Street, and the bright natural light that filled the room. While the decor was definitely more modern than I would choose for my personal home, I loved the clean, bright, and fresh feel of it for a downtown hotel room. The room and bathroom were much bigger than I expected, and there was plenty of room to spread all my things out (#overpacker speaking here). Needless to say, I quickly made myself at home and did not want to leave this bright space!

DINING

Not only are the accommodations lovely, but another huge perk of staying at 21c Lexington is the delicious food. Lockbox, a beautiful art-filled restaurant is located on the first level of the hotel and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. I had the chance to eat dinner at Lockbox one night during my stay, and I loved the atmosphere as well as the yummy dishes. I was in the mood for some comfort food and ordered the fried chicken (pictured above), which perfectly satisfied my craving!

Anyone who has ever travelled anywhere with me knows how much I love room service, and 21c's in room dining did not disappoint either. When I first checked in, I ordered their roasted chicken for lunch, which arrived promptly and was so delicious. Highly recommend!

MUSEUM

As I mentioned above, 21c Lexington has over 7,000 square feet of art exhibition space, so there is tons and tons of art everywhere. One morning I got lost exploring the space, admiring each work of art, and reading a bit about each artist. Each work of art has a story, and it is so interesting to wander through the exhibits learning more about where each piece came from and who created it. While some works seemed a bit shocking to my personal taste, it was still very interesting to explore and appreciate all of them!

LOCAL AREA

I may be a bit biased since 21c is the only hotel I have had a chance to stay at in downtown Lexington (last time I visited Lexington I stayed at the Kentucky Castle which is located a bit closer to Versailles), but I could not have loved the location more. It was so easy to get around, and there were lots of restaurants, shops, and activities located within walking distance of the hotel. On Saturday, the Lexington Farmers Market was just one block over from the hotel, which was a really fun way to kick off the weekend (read more here). The Kentucky Theater is just a couple blocks over as well and is a beautiful historic theater that shows several movies daily... perfect for a rainy day or night out!

SERVICE

Last thing! I have to mention that in addition to everything else, the service at the hotel was really really outstanding. From the minute I checked in to the minute I left, every single member of the 21c staff I encountered was extremely kind and made me feel completely taken care of. The sweet receptionist at the front desk even went out of her way to make sure my room was ready when I arrived several hours before the check-in time. A big thank you to their team for such a great weekend in this pretty city! Hoping to visit again soon!
